please don't rake in the lake!
Let's make our community a better place!
The Citizen Led Environmental Action Network at Silver Lake (CLEAN@SilverLake) works with municipalities, native plant experts, the Silver Lake Association (SLA), the Wyoming County Soil and Water Conservation District (WCSWCD), Perry High School (PHS), the Perry Herald, New York State Parks, the Silver Lake Watershed Commission, farmers, and lake residents to enhance the Silver Lake watershed health and vitality of Silver Lake. Examples of recent projects include stream bed remediation, careful removal of non-native plants and installation of heavily rooted native bushes, shrubs and trees, lake-wide pollinator installations, expanded education efforts, and yard waste management.
Are you passionate about what we're doing? Let us know! We are always looking for volunteers to help us make our vision a reality. We'll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you. We're excited to have you join the team!
Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
• The Silver Lake Association and CLEAN urge you to responsibly manage your yard waste.
• Nutrients in yard waste, including nitrogen and phosphorus, are released into water during decomposition. Algae and aquatic vegetation feed on these nutrients and can grow very rapidly when there are large quantities of nutrients.
• Composting is the optimal method for handling yard waste.
• Yard waste disposal to satellite municipal dumpsters is another option.
• Please, never dispose of your yard waste into Silver Lake.
The CLEAN and the SLA water quality team installed the new, vinyl display case and map at the Silver Lake State Boat Launch. As suggested by Doug Kelly we installed the case on the bathroom building where it will see a lot of traffic.
The informational native planting site map indicates areas that have been completed to date. The Wyoming County Soil and Water Conservation District (WCSWCD) staff are working with landowner(s) to secure appropriate permissions for potential planting sites for 2024 and 2025. Go to the Planting Projects tab for more information.
